YES. I am a doctor, get him off that and get him off it immedialty. If you love your sone you will get him off it and take him a nutritional counselor and a chiropractic. The drug will ruin his life.. he needs to get off sugar, make sure he has no allergies and get his nervous system checked… do this immedialty or he will only get worse and wrose and worse. Drugs are not the answer… they are closely linked to suicide, manic attacks, murder and depression.

Lithium is NOT FDA approved to treat children under the age of twelve. It is a very dangerous drug.http://www.schizophrenia.com/newsletter/…http://www.psych.uic.edu/pmdc/lithiumUSE…

He definitely needs to go immediately to his doctor. I would also get a second opinion regarding his bipolar disorder.
Medicines can really screw your mind up. When I started taking mine, I was hallucinating so bad that I swore up and down that our new house was haunted! Then my husband read the back of my medicine bottle and pointed out that one of the side effects was hallucinating. It eventually went away after a few months.
I know that if something like that was happening to a 6 year old then they would be very scared. The medicine is obviously not doing much good. He needs to be re-evaluated.
Good luck to your friend and her son!

First off, I’m curious as to why someone would diagnose a SIX YEAR OLD with bi-polar disorder? This disease is generally documented for years before a diagnoses can be made. Lithium has dangerous side effects both long term and short term, so I wonder why a doctor would prescribe that particular drug when there are many other options? Sounds your friend has a bad doctor and needs a second opinion.

yes, get him to a naturopath etc. because those meds weren’t created for nor tested on children

I’m not sure what doctor in his right mind would prescribe lithium to a child, especially 6 years old. The first post is right on..get him off it NOW!! Nutrition is the answer, not drugs. What a bad doctor, time to find a new one.

I’d definitely say the lithium could have something to do with it. Your friend needs to talk to her child’s doctor about it. If he’s SIX and he’s saying stuff like that, I would be worried. I’m sure they could find something else for him… I have a bipolar friend, and she’s NEVER done something like that… So yeah, she most certainly needs to talk to his doctor…

Lithium has side effects when used in children
Children under the age of seven years given lithium therapy for bipolar disorder or severely aggressive behavior are likely to experience central nervous system difficulties related directly to drug therapy.
Dr. Elizabeth Waller and colleagues at Ohio State University and associates at Brown University studied the records of 20 children aged 6 years or younger who’d been given lithium. Half of the children experienced CNS impairment. Complications included drowsiness, confusion, poor coordination and tremor and 25% experienced nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Side effects occurred most often during the first week of treatment and appeared to be related to higher doses of lithium and higher blood lithium levels. Side effects also occurred more often in children being treated for bipolar disorder and in children who began lithium therapy while ill with other medical conditions.
Bottom line, Dr. Weller says, is that lithium should be prescribed with extreme caution in young children. In fact, she says, prescribing lithium to young children should be done only by clinicians with great experience using the drug in that subset of the pediatric population.
(Also, some anti-depressants and bipolar medications can cause thoughts of suicide in children under 18, please advise your friend to take her child to the hospital ASAP)
