A lot of the pdocs decide by what they like or an impression when they see you. Then they find the proof or induce it with drugs. All modern medicine is witch craft and psychiatry is the scariest. You could find proof of lots (maybe any) of disorders in yourself. Just go look. and pdocs are the experts.
if it was me i’d want more than one visit, and perhaps a psychiatrist, or mental health care specialist.
If your friend was exhibiting some of the symptoms of bipolar, I could see where a doctor could diagnose it as that. But, the doctor should have also referred your friend to a specialist so that a definitive diagnosis can be made. This is a serious disorder, I would want further examinations by doctors who are specialists in the field.
Many conservative doctors refrain from making a diagnosis on the first visit at all.
They will do a slow, methodical workup and gradually, over time, rule some things out and some things in, eventually coming up with a correct diagnosis.
In many, many cases it is simply not possible to do that accurately on the very first visit.
