Yes. It’s very possible that may have to be medicated for the rest of your life. This is not because you will be “addicted” to the medication. But instead, you will need the medication to regulate your moods in the same way that a diabetic needs medication or insulin to regulate their blood sugar level.

over time your medical needs may change.I’m 51 i now only require anti-depresants,every case is different.good luck.

I believe the effects of the medication outweigh the effects of being full-blown bipolar.
Once people start to feel better, then they get off their medication(common mistake).
Don’t bet that you have to be on this the rest of your life.
    People get better…

ask yourself, what is worse, your bi polar symptoms or having to take medication?

i think it all depends on what stage you are at. in every medical condition there are slower stages and higher stages. you may only have to be on meds for a short period of time, but it may end up being the rest of your life. it depends on the person and how bad the condition is.
bipolar is a mental disorder w periods of mania and depression. meaning you have a chemical in balance in your body. your body may need medication to properly function, so you don’t have episodes. but, it clearly is up to what you DR thinks. so, if you have any thoughts about it you need to consult with your DR.
    hope this helps!

i know that you must hate taking all of those pills, and no you don’t have to take them in order to live, but you might want to check around for a little more information before you take yourself off. you might need them so you can enjoy a quality of life that most people take for granted, but then there are other people who successfully live without them. if i was you, i would look on-line for more information, maybe try reading a blog from family or suffers, look into alternative choices, see if there is a doctor in your area you can objectively discuss the options with.you might find you had a lot more options then you originally thought. you also need to remember there are worse things then taking a pill everyday of your life and millions of people do it everyday so they can live with their conditions( high blood pressure, allergies, diabeties, organ transplants and so on), there are a lot of us on that same boat with you who can sympathize.it’ll get better , i promise.

Probably. I dated a guy with the same thing. He was bipolar and didn’t have a problem with the medicine itself. He just didn’t like taking pills constantly. He would feel better and lay off the pills. It was the medicine in the system that made him feel better. When he stopped he got really depressed. Unfortunately you will need the medicine. Don’t risk your relationships and career and all that because you don’t like the pills. No one looks at you differently because of it. It is something you’re gonna have to handle for now until someone can think of a better solution. The guy I dated ended up losing his job because of an outburst and then losing his house because of his job. We eventually broke it off because he didn’t trust himself around me anymore (His bipolar entailed extreme depression and paranoia coupled with giddiness and extreme behaviour.) Stay with the meds.

You can try electroconvulsive Therarpy. It has a bad rep, but works. Also, you can learn to live with it; just realize that problems will happen.

Hello My name is Shanda G. My husband has Manic Bipolar Disorder. And as the same with you he don’t like taking med’s. But when you start to look at it from my point of view you may change your mind. Bipolar Disorder is for the intelligent. And in a way you blessed and cursed all in one. Me and my husband have been together for 6 yr’s. And let me tell you it’s not easy. But taking your med’s it not a addiction it is a solution, to help the mind and body coap with life. No it’s not easy it’s hard to have this Disorder but you can be on top of it if you wish so. I’m 25 yr’s old and not to many women can handle the stress that comes from it. But it doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with you because there’s not. You still put your pant on just like I do and every one else. But to answer your question. Yes you will have to have your med’s from here on out. And not every med works for this disorder. That’s why through life you will have to find the right type for you. My husband has tried 5 different types of med’s. And now he is taking adivan 3x’s a day. And he is not as on as stressed out. So hopefully you will learn and research on this disorder to help your self and others. Hope i have been helpful. If you need to talk more. E me @ butterflystones@yahoo.com

Quote “I don’t really mind it I just like having to worry about taking them at the same time every day.”
You might have to do what I’m going to do. Get yourself a multi alarm watch. You can program it to go off at set times. Just set the different alarms for your med times and you’ll be able to take your pills at the same time every day.
And don’t worry about the addicted part. An addiction you can’t do without the pills or you go through withdrawals. Instead you just need the helping hand they give. (A cheap way of thinking but it helps me when I start getting depressed over the number of pills I take a day. Sometimes I swear I can hear them rattle when I walk. LOL)
As for getting off the pills, I hope so. They are doing research to find better ways. Heck, I’d take one of those patches you apply once a month and it dispenses the medication like a non-smoking patch if they ever come up with one.

I’m on medication myself….I often wonder this same thing. From what I know, there are ways we can change our lifestyles (exercise, food we eat, our environment, relationships) that MAY someday allow us to quit taking meds. I guess, this isn’t much of an answer, just wanted you to know what I’ve heard. Let’s just hope it can be done.

If you were on a same pill for 2 years its possible for your body to develope Tollerance that could slow down the treatment……With Biopolar Disorder other then taking medicines that prove to be helpful is theraphy but its hard to listen to others who textbook case you and give you advice when they should question you and write in their textbooks. even they recommend(friends and families)im not a doctor but people who are USED to take medication doesnt leave much room in their head for other options.
until you discover other option you’ll just have to take pills until your body starts to balance and nuetralize without the medicine. which means keep taking the pills untill you feel slight or no difference when ur on or off the pills. and never stop until doctor tells you other wise.
